This is a novelty souvenir item, not a Bank of Canada issue. The Bank of Canada has never produced a 24-karat gold foil banknote in any denomination. Items of this type are privately manufactured — typically in China — and sold through gift shops and online marketplaces under deliberately ambiguous packaging that implies official status without stating it. They carry no legal tender standing and no monetary value whatsoever.
Collectors should note that the actual polymer 10-dollar note featuring Viola Desmond, introduced in 2018, was the first Canadian banknote to feature a Black Canadian on its primary face — that note has genuine historical weight. This foil piece borrows that significance without any connection to it.
