Items of this type are privately manufactured — typically in China — and sold through gift shops and online marketplaces under deliberately ambiguous packaging that implies official status without stating it. Collectors should note that the actual polymer 10-dollar note featuring Viola Desmond, introduced in 2018, was the first Canadian banknote to feature a Black Canadian on its primary face — that note has genuine historical weight.
