| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Republic of Namibia is rendered in high relief at center, depicting an escutcheon supported by two oryx antelope, surmounted by an African fish eagle with wings displayed. The motto ribbon inscribed UNITY, LIBERTY, JUSTICE appears at the base of the arms. The legend REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA curves along the lower periphery, with the date 2009 positioned in the exergue beneath the shield. The proof fields are deeply mirrored, contrasting with the frosted devices. |

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Wilhelm I of Germany — not to be confused with the Prussian king of the same name — this coin honors the German colonial administrator whose name was given to what is now Lüderitz, then called Angra Pequena before German South West Africa formalized its presence there in 1884. The dual-metal construction, with a gold-plated insert set into the silver field, was a production technique Namibia's commemorative program used selectively in the late 2000s for issues targeting the collector market rather than circulation.
