The Monetary Authority of Swaziland was itself a transitional institution — it functioned between 1974 and 1979, when the Central Bank of Swaziland took over. This note belongs to the very first series Swaziland issued as an independent currency authority, replacing the rand at par. De La Rue's involvement was typical for newly independent southern African states seeking credibility through an established security printer.

R.P. Stephens was the expatriate Monetary Authority administrator; Mayisela's co-signature reflects the deliberate policy of dual authorization during a handover period that was, politically, still very much in progress.
