Latvia's euro coin trials were conducted well in advance of actual eurozone accession — the country didn't adopt the euro until 2014, a full decade after these probe pieces were struck. Trial strikings like this one were produced for technical evaluation and were never released into circulation, making surviving examples almost entirely the product of official distribution to collectors and minting industry insiders.
