| Reverse description | Facing left, a finely modelled draped bust of Archimedes of Syracuse occupies the central and right portion of the field, portraying the ancient Greek mathematician with a full, curly beard and flowing hair in a classical sculptural style. The surrounding field is decorated with schematic renderings of Archimedean inventions and geometric constructions, including pulleys, levers, circles, and mechanical devices, rendered in low relief against a contrasting background. The engraver's monogram appears in the lower left field. A toothed decorative border frames the entire design, and the curved legend at the lower periphery reads ΑΡΧΙΜΗΔΗΣ Ο ΣΥΡΑΚΟΥΣΙΟΣ 287-212 π.Χ. in Greek script, identifying the subject and his dates. |
