Kuwait's fils coinage was introduced following the establishment of the Kuwait Dinar in 1961, when the country severed its monetary connection to the Indian rupee that had served the Gulf region for decades. The Central Bank of Kuwait issued these pieces across a remarkably long production run with minimal design revision — a deliberate policy choice reflecting political stability the Gulf's smaller states rarely advertised so openly.
The non-magnetic designation distinguishes this type from later issues; the composition remained consistent across most of the run, but vending and sorting infrastructure in Kuwait eventually drove interest in magnetic alternatives.
