The Gorch Fock is the German Navy's training tall ship, launched in 1958 and still active — one of the longest-serving sail training vessels in the world. Vanuatu has no naval tradition connected to her, making this a purely commercial numismatic issue targeting collectors of maritime and military memorabilia rather than any domestic market. The coin's steel-and-colored-paper composite construction is a production method associated with the Coin Invest Trust of Liechtenstein, which has manufactured similar novelty issues for numerous small Pacific issuing authorities.
