The Sherman Firefly was a British modification of the American M4 Sherman, fitted with the 17-pounder anti-tank gun specifically to counter German armor that standard Shermans could not reliably penetrate. It saw extensive use after D-Day and was so effective that German tank crews were instructed to prioritize Fireflies as targets before engaging anything else.
