Additional information

Piéforts are a Monnaie de Paris specialty with roots going back to the 16th century — struck at double the normal planchet thickness as presentation pieces and proof-of-die records, never intended for circulation. This gold example from 1974 is among the rarer metallic variants of the Rainier III piéfort program, which Monaco issued in both silver and gold during the 1970s in quantities typically measured in the dozens rather than thousands.

The Gadoury reference MC156 places it firmly in the Monaco collector series rather than the regular minting schedule.
