Comments

Imbach is a tiny village in Lower Austria — a handful of houses in the Krems valley — and its decision to issue Heller notgeld during the First World War places it among the smallest communities in Austria-Hungary to have done so. These municipal emergency issues emerged from a coin shortage that became acute by 1916, when the hoarding of metal currency stripped small denominations from everyday commerce almost entirely. Parishes, market towns, and villages were left to improvise their own fractional paper.

The JPR0404 series from Imbach is catalogued in multiple denomination variants. The "IIb" subtype designation typically reflects a second printing with minor typographic or color differences from the first — worth distinguishing for a complete run of this issuer.
