| Obverse description | The obverse features the coat of arms of Iceland centrally positioned in the field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a silver cross on blue with a red cross inset, supported by the four traditional guardian spirits (landvættir): a bull (griðungur) to the lower left, a giant (bergrisinn) to the right holding a staff, a dragon (dreki) to the upper left, and a great bird (gammur) to the upper right, all standing upon a base of rocky lava formations.
