Obverse description Portrait vignette of Reverend John Chilembwe (1871–1915), Baptist pastor and iconic figure of anti-colonial resistance in Nyasaland (present-day Malawi), rendered in intaglio at centre. The note carries guilloche underprint patterns typical of the series, with the issuer's name and denomination inscriptions framing the portrait.
