Zambia redenominated its currency in 2013, lopping off three zeros and returning the kwacha to a scale last seen in the 1970s. This 2024 note is part of the series introduced under that reformed system, meaning the face value reflects post-rebasing reality — 10 kwacha today is a genuinely functional denomination, not a relic inflated into irrelevance.
Cotton substrate with watermark and thread is a conservative security specification for a note of this vintage, though the Bank of Zambia has historically kept its lower denominations modest in that regard.
