| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Life President of Malawi, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The legend NGWAZI DR.H.KAMUZA BANDA arcs above the bust, while the country name MALAWI appears below. The title 'Ngwazi,' meaning conqueror or hero in Chichewa, reflects Banda's official honorific. The portrait is attributed to engraver Paul Vincze and displays a realistic, medallic style characteristic of his work. |

| Additional information |
Malawi's early commemorative silver program was largely driven by the priorities of Hastings Banda's government, which used prestige coinage as both a foreign exchange earner and a tool of international visibility for a nation that had only achieved independence in 1964. The 1975 issue falls within a period when the Reserve Bank was actively contracting Franklin Mint to produce collector-grade silver pieces for export rather than domestic use — most examples never entered circulation in Malawi at all.
