| Obverse description | The central field presents a matted relief rendition of the 1226 seal of the Riga Town Council, depicting the walls of a medieval fortified city, the crossed keys of Saint Peter, and a bishop's crosier, all executed with varying degrees of metal matting to create depth and contrast. Below the heraldic motif, the date 1995 and the denomination numeral 10 are inscribed, followed by the currency inscription LATU arranged along the lower portion of the field. The design is unframed, allowing the textured central motif to occupy the full coin face within a plain border. |

Latvia's interwar silver commemorative program, run through the 1990s after independence was restored in 1991, drew heavily on medieval Hanseatic history — Riga having been founded in 1201 and rapidly becoming one of the Livonian Order's most commercially significant nodes on the Baltic trade network. This piece references the 13th-century city specifically, the period when German merchants and the Teutonic-affiliated orders were consolidating control over what is now Latvia.
