| Additional information |
Grigore Tocilescu (1850–1909) was Romania's most consequential 19th-century archaeologist, responsible for systematic excavations at Adamclisi and the reconstruction of the Tropaeum Traiani monument in Dobrogea — a site he argued, controversially for his time, commemorated Trajan's Dacian campaigns of 101–102 AD rather than the better-known 105–106 war. His 1895 monograph on the monument remains a foundational reference. The issue marks the 175th anniversary of his birth.
