Additional information

Greece's early coinage under George I was struck by foreign mints — this issue came from the French Mint in Paris, as the fledgling Greek state lacked domestic minting capacity for base metal coinage. The Paris provenance is confirmed by the absence of a mintmark, a quirk of that facility's standard practice for Greek contracts in this period.

The "1st portrait" designation matters: George I's effigy was revised during his reign, making the die type a meaningful distinction rather than a collector's affectation.
