Obverse description Bust of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk facing left, wearing a karakul hat and formal attire, set against a radiate sunburst pattern emanating from the central field. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs along the periphery in raised Latin lettering, interrupted by a small dot at the base. The portrait is rendered in moderate relief in a style consistent with the standardized Atatürk coinage designs adopted by the Turkish State Mint.

Additional information

Turkey's aluminum coinage of this period was produced under the shadow of the September 1980 military coup, which brought the National Security Council to power and restructured virtually every arm of the state — the mint included. The "crescent to left" designation distinguishes this from a parallel die variety where the crescent on the reverse faces right; both exist for this year, making die attribution genuinely consequential for type collectors rather than a footnote.
