| Comments |
Bank of China was granted note-issuing authority in Macau in 1995, making it the third and final bank licensed to issue patacas alongside Banco Nacional Ultramarino and the Banco Tai Fung predecessor arrangement. The 2008 series marked a deliberate visual rebranding of the Bank of China issues after the 1999 handover had fully settled administratively — Macau's currency architecture remained tripartite even under Chinese sovereignty, an unusual arrangement that persists to this day.
Printed by Hongkong Printing Press, which handles security printing for several regional issuers. The cotton substrate on this series has been noted as prone to soiling relatively quickly in Macau's humid subtropical climate, meaning circulated examples often show disproportionate wear for their age.
