Western Sahara has no functioning mint, no recognized government with international monetary authority, and no circulating currency of its own — the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic operates in a political limbo that makes any coin issued in its name a fantasy piece by definition. These brass issues, printed with colorized paper inserts rather than struck designs, are produced commercially for the novelty and collector markets, not by or for any actual monetary authority in the territory.
