Additional information

Cuba has issued commemorative silver in quantity since the 1980s, much of it aimed squarely at the foreign collector market rather than domestic circulation. This pairing of Castro and Hemingway on a single coin is a product of that export-oriented program — an unusual conjunction reflecting Hemingway's well-documented relationship with Cuba, where he lived for over twenty years at Finca Vigía outside Havana and famously met Fidel Castro at the 1960 Ernest Hemingway Fishing Tournament.
