| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three quarters: the upper left displays a rising sun over a seascape with the key of the Gulf of Mexico, the upper right bears a Cuban royal palm flanked by mountains, and the lower half displays the blue-and-white diagonal stripes of the Cuban flag. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap bearing a five-pointed star, and flanked by a wreath composed of an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, bound at the base. The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 10 PESOS and the fineness notation 1 OZ AG 0.999 are inscribed in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a colorized depiction of the Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus's flagship, shown under full sail navigating stylized blue waves rendered in applied color. The vessel is portrayed in fine detail, with three masts carrying cream-colored sails each bearing a bold red cross of the Order of Christ, and a richly detailed brown hull with visible planking and rigging. The arched legend ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS (Encounter of Two Worlds) curves along the upper rim, while the name SANTA MARIA appears within a ribbon scroll in the lower exergue. The date 2001 is inscribed to the lower right of the ship's hull, accompanied by the mint mark of the Empresa Cubana de Acuñaciones. |
