Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf was a small industrial municipality on the western shore of Kiel Fjord — home to shipyards and metalworks — that merged into the city of Kiel in 1924. Like hundreds of German communes during the Kleingeldersatz crisis of 1917–1921, it issued its own low-denomination Notgeld when coins effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded by a public that no longer trusted the currency's stability. The 10 Pfennig denomination was the workhorse of local emergency scrip, used for tram fares, small market transactions, and change at factory canteens.

Municipal issues from this region are frequently underdated in collector literature because many were printed by small local shops without recorded print runs.
