Metallwerke Holleischen GmbH was an armaments factory operating near Holýšov in occupied Czechoslovakia, staffed largely by forced laborers — concentration camp prisoners transferred primarily from Flossenbürg. This note is camp scrip, not currency in any conventional sense. It could only be exchanged within the controlled canteen system, a mechanism that extracted nominal wages mandated under SS accounting rules while returning almost nothing of real value to the workers.
The yellow cardboard stock is characteristic of the series. These Lagergeld issues were printed in small denominations precisely because purchasing power was deliberately kept negligible.
