Ajman, smallest of the Trucial States with a population under 5,000 at the time, had essentially no monetary infrastructure of its own — its coins were issued almost entirely for the international collector market rather than circulation. This piece, one of a flood of commemorative issues Ajman produced in 1969–1970 before UAE federation rendered the series obsolete, honors Lenin in the centenary year of his birth. The choice was commercially calculated: Soviet-themed numismatic issues sold briskly in European collector markets at the time.
