| Obverse description | The national emblem of the Republic of Maldives is depicted centrally, comprising a crescent and star flanked by two national flags on staffs, surmounted by a coconut palm tree in full frond. A scroll bearing an Arabic inscription in the lower portion of the emblem divides the dual dating in the exergue. The legend REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES curves along the upper periphery in Latin characters, while the dual date — in Arabic-Indic numerals (١٤٠٠) to the left and Western numerals (1980) to the right — appears along the lower border. The design is executed in high relief against a smooth field, bordered by a beaded rim. |
