Cargados Carajos Shoals — also called the St. Brandon Archipelago — is a Mauritian outer island dependency roughly 430 km northeast of the main island, with no permanent civilian population. The "Avocare" series, issued from 2016 onward, was specifically designed to circulate alongside but distinct from the standard Mauritian rupee series, commemorating the country's scattered island territories through polymer substrates not yet used for mainland notes at that time.
Whether these notes saw any meaningful transactional use on Cargados Carajos itself is doubtful — the shoals host only a small rotating fishing community and a meteorological station.
