The Central Bank of Seychelles has rotated through several design series since gaining issuing authority in 1983, and this 2016 note belongs to the third generation of the post-independence family. Thomas De La Rue has printed Seychelles currency continuously since the early independence issues, an unusually long uninterrupted relationship for a small island issuer.

A print run of just over 12 million is modest but consistent with the archipelago's population of under 100,000 — per-capita one of the higher issue volumes in the Indian Ocean region when demand from the tourism sector is factored in.
