Nepal Rastra Bank issued this note under King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, though Mahendra died in January 1972 and was succeeded by Birendra — making it likely this series straddled the transition, with the royal attribution reflecting the reigning monarch at the time of authorization rather than printing. Bradbury Wilkinson, whose New Malden works produced security printing for dozens of Commonwealth and post-colonial states throughout the mid-twentieth century, handled the job from London.
Pick 18 falls within a short-lived royal portrait series that was retired relatively quickly as Nepal updated its note designs through the 1970s.
