| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in brown and black tones on a cream paper ground. At centre-left, a large ornate circular guilloche vignette contains the official government seal (大蔵印), with vertical kanji inscription reading 日本帝国政府紙幣 (Japanese Imperial Government Note) and the denomination 拾圓 in bold kanji at centre. To the right, an oval intaglio portrait of a young woman in traditional dress with pearl jewellery is set within an elaborate decorative frame flanked by mythological lion-dog (komainu) vignettes. Serial numbers and issue date appear in kanji at the upper left and lower right corners. |
