Obverse description The brass centre features a cluster of five cocoa pods (Theobroma cacao) depicted in relief, arranged symmetrically on their stems and filling the inner field. The bimetallic border ring carries the circular legend, with 'GHANA' arching across the top and 'FREEDOM AND JUSTICE' continuing around the lower portion, separated by raised dot stops.

Reverse description The reverse displays the Ghanaian coat of arms at centre, featuring a quartered shield with a rampant lion, divided by the date and denomination into four sections. The outer copper-nickel ring frames the entire heraldic composition.
