| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty, rendered in the Ceres type tradition, wearing a laurel branch in her hair and a diadem inscribed LIBERTAD across the forehead, with an elaborately braided chignon secured by a diamond-patterned net at the reverse. A pearl necklace adorns the neck, and the engraver's name TASSET appears in small letters at the truncation. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs along the periphery, bordered by a continuous beaded rim, while the date 1869 is inscribed in the exergue flanked by two small ornamental dots. |

Uruguay's decimal coinage system was still being negotiated in the late 1860s, with the government weighing competing proposals for the new republic's monetary framework. This 1869 pattern was struck as part of that evaluation process — a trial piece produced to test design and technical specifications before any authorized coinage was committed to production. The issue never advanced beyond pattern status, and KM#E2 survivors exist in very small numbers.
