This 2012 issue is part of the series Bank Al-Maghrib introduced progressively through the 2000s and early 2010s, replacing the earlier generation of Moroccan notes that had circulated since the 1980s and 1990s. The 100 Dirham denomination has consistently been among the highest-volume notes in Morocco's payment system, meaning heavily worn examples far outnumber clean ones in the secondary market.

Security on this series is modest by contemporary standards — watermark and embedded thread, without the optically variable inks or color-shifting features that appeared on later Moroccan issues.
