The Bermuda Monetary Authority's 1997 series was produced as Bermuda updated its note designs ahead of the new millennium, with De La Rue incorporating a security thread into a denomination that had previously relied on watermarking alone. The $100 is the highest value in Bermudian circulation and consequently sees relatively low turnover — most pass through banks and hotels rather than daily retail trade, which means worn examples are less common than the denominations below $50.
De La Rue's London plant handled the full Bermuda series throughout this period, a relationship stretching back decades given Bermuda's status as a British Overseas Territory.
