Reverse description A traditional Kuwaiti dhow (boom sailing vessel) rendered in fine relief, depicted under full sail and sailing to the right over stylised waves occupying the central field. The rigging, masts, and hull details are crisply engraved, conveying the maritime heritage of Kuwait. Below the vessel, the dual-calendar date is inscribed in Arabic-Indic numerals along the lower arc, presenting the Hijri year followed by the Gregorian year. The design is bordered by a continuous reeded rim.

Additional information

Kuwait's first coin series was issued in 1961 following the creation of the Kuwait Currency Board, just weeks after the country gained full independence from Britain in June of that year. The Central Bank of Kuwait replaced the Currency Board in 1969, though the coin designs carried forward largely unchanged for decades. This particular type ran through multiple portrait variants tied to successive rulers — Sabah III, Jaber, and Saad — making date and portrait matching the primary collector consideration within the series.
