Guinea's 100 Francs series from the mid-1980s came after a significant monetary reset: the syli, introduced in 1971 by Sékou Touré's government to break from the CFA franc zone, had been abandoned following Touré's death in 1984 and the military coup that immediately followed. The franc was reinstated at a rate of 1 franc to 100 sylis. This note belongs to the first years of that transition, circulating under the military Comité Militaire de Redressement National.
A print run of just over 12 million is modest for a low-denomination note in a country of Guinea's size, suggesting rapid inflationary pressure was already eroding its purchasing utility before stocks were exhausted.
