Obverse description Central device depicts the coat of arms of Burundi, featuring a lion's head facing front set within a circular wreath of two crossed spears and a traditional drum motif, overlaid by a ribbon bearing the national motto in three parts. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE DU BURUNDI arcs along the upper border in raised Latin letters, while the date 2015 appears in the lower exergue flanked by decorative stops. The motto UNITÉ - TRAVAIL - PROGRÈS is inscribed across the central ribbon in three segments. The entire design is framed by a segmented border of raised dashes characteristic of this icosagonal series.

Reverse description Central field features a full-color applied depiction of a saddled butterflyfish (Chaetodon ephippium) shown in profile swimming leftward above a relief-engraved coral reef seabed, its characteristic large black saddle patch, yellow flanks, and red-edged dorsal markings rendered in vivid polychrome enamel. The series legend SEA'S AMAZING WILDLIFE arcs along the upper border in raised Latin letters, and the species name CHAETODON EPHIPPIUM is inscribed below the central design. The denomination 100 FRANCS appears in the lower border flanked by decorative stops. The rim is decorated with the same segmented dash border as the obverse.
