This note was never legal tender. Issued in 2021 as a collector item by the Monnaie de Paris under their "Billets de Collection" program, it commemorates the 50th anniversary of de Gaulle's death and has no monetary function — the face value printed on it is entirely symbolic. France has been part of the eurozone since 2002, so the franc denomination exists here purely as commemorative framing.

The polymer substrate is unusual for French commemorative issues, which have historically favored cotton-rag stock. Watermark security on a polymer note is also an anomaly worth noting — conventional polymer notes achieve security through transparent windows and diffractive elements, not watermarks, making the technical execution here an oddity.
