Obverse description The national coat of arms of Burundi is depicted at the centre of the field, featuring a detailed lion's head facing front, flanked by two crossed spears and two stylised sorghum stalks arranged diagonally. A flowing ribbon banner overlays the lower portion of the central device, bearing the national motto in three parts. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE DU BURUNDI arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 2015 appears in the lower exergual area, both framed by a decorative border of alternating rectangular and dot elements consistent across the icosagonal coin's inner rim.

Reverse description A highly detailed, full-colour printed depiction of Synchiropus splendidus (the mandarinfish) occupies the central field, rendered with vivid hues of red, purple, orange, and blue that highlight the species' distinctive psychedelic patterning. The fish is shown in lateral profile, its elaborate finnage fully extended, set against an engraved background of coral reef elements, sea anemones, and circular wave motifs. The series title SEA'S AMAZING WILDLIFE arcs along the upper legend, while the denomination 100 FRANCS is inscribed along the lower border. The scientific name SYNCHIROPUS SPLENDIDUS appears vertically along the left inner field. The design is framed by the same decorative dash-and-dot border as the obverse.
