Comments

This note was issued in the final, chaotic months of the Romanian monarchy. By late 1947, hyperinflation had already gutted the leu — Romania had undergone a stabilization reform in August 1947 that redenominated currency at 20,000 old lei to one new leu, making most earlier paper worthless overnight. Notes issued after that reform, including this series, circulated into the abdication of King Michael I on 30 December 1947 and the immediate proclamation of the Romanian People's Republic.

The transition meant this issue had an exceptionally short active life before new republican-era notes displaced it entirely.
