Comments

Vaasa Osake Pankki was one of several Finnish commercial banks that issued emergency currency during the 1918 Civil War, when the White forces controlled Ostrobothnia and the official monetary system was effectively split along front lines. These private bank notes filled a genuine transactional vacuum — the Reds held Helsinki and with it the Bank of Finland's infrastructure, leaving White-controlled territories dependent on regional issuance.

P#S112 carries an "S" prefix in the Pick catalogue, denoting regional or provisional status. After the White victory, these notes were redeemed and withdrawn fairly quickly, limiting long-term circulation wear but also suppressing survivor populations.
