Additional information

Qatar hosted the 15th Asian Games in December 2006 — the first Gulf state ever to do so. The event required enormous infrastructure investment and served as a deliberate geopolitical signal, positioning Doha as a viable host for major international sport well before the FIFA World Cup bid was even filed. This commemorative was issued by the Qatar Central Bank specifically for the occasion, part of a small series tied to the Games.

KM#23 is among the scarcer pieces from the set, with mintages kept low in keeping with Qatar's practice of issuing collector gold in limited quantities.
