Belarus redenominated in 2000, lopping four zeros off the Soviet-era rouble to produce a new scale of notes that itself became rapidly obsolete — by the time this series was retired, inflation had already made a 100-rouble note functionally worthless for any ordinary transaction. The National Bank issued replacement series in 2000 and again later in the decade, with only minor security updates between print runs, which is why catalog references sometimes conflate distinct printings under the same Pick number.
Watermark-only security on a cotton substrate was already behind contemporary standards at the time of issue.
