Japan's military rupee issues for Burma were introduced following the occupation in 1942 and ran through several series, this being among the later high-denomination notes printed before the Allied recapture of Rangoon in May 1945 effectively ended their use. The Japanese military currency system operated in parallel with — and ultimately displaced — the existing Burma Currency Board notes, whose backing had real economic substance; the military issues had none.

With over twelve million printed, the note was not scarce in circulation. Survivors are common. What collapses value in most examples is ink oxidation along the folds — a known issue with the paper stock used in this series.
