The Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce, one of Nepal's oldest trade bodies, is based in Patan — the ancient Newar city immediately south of Kathmandu that the Malla kings ruled as a distinct kingdom until 1768. This commemorative was issued by Nepal Rastra Bank to mark the chamber's anniversary, a relatively rare instance of a central bank extending commemorative honors to a regional commercial institution rather than a national political or religious occasion.
