| Obverse description | Facing bust effigy of Antonio José de Sucre, the Venezuelan independence hero and namesake of Ecuador's currency, rendered in portrait style within the brass-clad steel centre. The legend BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR and ANTONIO JOSE DE SUCRE arcs around the upper and lower fields of the stainless steel ring respectively. Two dates, 1927 and 1997, appear at the base of the design, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Banco Central del Ecuador. |
