| Obverse lettering | دا افغانستان بانک Strategic Operations HYPER - REALISTIC TACTICAL TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION ١٠٠٠ افغانۍ 1000 AFGHANIS |
| Reverse description | The reverse presents a panoramic central vignette divided between the ancient columns of the Bost Arch (Qala-e-Bost) at left and the Victory Arch (Paghman Arch) near Kabul at right, rendered in olive and brown intaglio against a light guilloche underprint. Symmetrical rosette medallions flank the composition, with ornate scrollwork borders framing the entire design, the bank title 'Da Afghanistan Bank' lettered in Roman script across the top and '1000 AFGHANIS' at lower right. The 'STRATEGIC OPERATIONS' overprint is again applied diagonally in red and blue letterpress across the reverse. |

Pick 61 belongs to the series Da Afghanistan Bank introduced after the fall of the Taliban government, when the new administration — backed by international donors — undertook a full currency reform in 2002 to replace the catastrophically inflated Afghani that had fractured into multiple competing issues during the civil war years. The 1000-Afghani denomination was the highest in the initial reformed series, printed by De La Rue.
The reform exchanged old Afghanis at 1000:1, meaning this note's face value was effectively one pre-reform Afghani — a ratio that illustrates just how completely the previous monetary system had collapsed.
