| Obverse description | Central vignette presents an arrangement of sixteen traditional tribal masks of Liberia set within an intricate guilloche underprint, captioned "SIXTEEN TRIBES OF LIBERIA" at the base. The denomination "ONE THOUSAND" is rendered in large intaglio lettering to the right, accompanied by two facsimile signatures of the Minister of Finance and Development Planning and the Executive Governor. The serial number appears in blue on both the left and right margins, with "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA" inscribed across the upper border. |

Liberia's currency history is bound up with its relationship to the US dollar, which circulated alongside the Liberian dollar for decades under a dual-currency arrangement that only began unwinding seriously in the late 2010s. The $1,000 Liberian denomination — worth roughly $5 USD at time of issue — reflects the sustained devaluation that made high-denomination notes operationally necessary for everyday transactions.
P#43 is a relatively recent emission, printed on cotton substrate with a security thread and watermark but without the more advanced optical features found on contemporaneous issues from neighboring central banks. Functional rather than technically ambitious.
