Obverse description Central field displays the coat of arms of Niger, consisting of a shield bearing a rayed sun, crossed spear and millet stalk, and a zebu head, flanked by two national flags on crossed staffs with spearheads. A ribbon scroll beneath the shield bears the legend REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER. The upper field carries the arched legend INDEPENDANCE, while the lower field bears the denomination 1000 FRS and the independence date 3 AOUT 1960 in bold relief.
