Niger's 2012 commemorative program produced several religiously themed issues aimed squarely at the Gulf collector market, where demand for Islamic-motif silver was running high in the early 2010s. This piece functions as a working qibla compass — the bezel rotates to indicate the direction of Mecca — making it one of the few coins in any modern series with a genuine mechanical component embedded in the flan itself.
